2017 Nov 24 - Night Seminar with Dr. David Owens for "Management of Sports Related Concussion"
It is our first kickoff of series night seminars in 2017 and 2018. The first speaker is a very experienced doctor who is also the chief medical officer in Hong Kong and Asia Rugby. We special thank for his updated information on management of concussion in contact sport such as rugby as well as the introduction on SCAT5.

2017 Oct 28 - Poster Presentation for Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association Conference
It is our big honor that our abstract paper of "Epidemiology of Injuries and On-field Physiotherapy Services in Hong Kong Oxfam Trailwalkers: A Retrospective Report" and "Epidemiology of Injuries and On-field Physiotherapy Services in Hong Kong Oxfam Trailwalkers: 2014 to 2016" were accepted. Our Education Officer Mr. Indy HO represented the HKPA-SSG to deliver the poster presentation. We have to special thank for all physiotherapists and students volunteered in the Oxfam Trailwalkers onfield event and their substantial contribution in data collection.

2017 Sep 10 - Lower Limb Muscle Activation Workshop by Michael Vadiveloo
We are glad to have one of the well known sports physiotherapy specialists from Melbourne, Michael Vadiveloo to come and share both the theory and practical on how to properly activation different important lower limb muscles for our rehabilitative and injuries prevention purposes such as VMO, hamstrings, gluteal and calf etc. In his presentation he has included many updated literature on muscle activation and through his extensive clinical experience, he showed us how to modify exercises to change the activation of different portions of fibers effectively.

2017 Sep 8 - Lower Limb Muscle Activation Workshop by Michael Vadiveloo
The day before the 1-day practical workshop about Lower Limb Activation, Michael Vadiveloo has provided a 1.5-hour seminar to our physiotherapists to point out the common mistakes in treating lower limb injuries. Special thanks to Active Physiotherapy clinics for providing the venue.

2017 Jun 29 to July 9 - World Orienteering Championship
This year the WOC was held in Estonia and we are glad to have Nicole Tai to be the team physiotherapist for Hong Kong. She not just provided hands-on manual therapy, she also brought recovery equipment and machine to foster the recovery of athletes to better prepare the match on coming days.

2017 Jun 25 to July 1 - XXI World Transplant Games Malaga, Sprain
Sports Specialty Group has been invited to provide overseas on-field support to World Transplants Games since 2007. The participants were transplanted athletes including recipients of kidney, lung, bone marrow, liver and heart. This is the first year to allow donors to participate in this event. There were 52 countries participated in the games.

2017 Jun 18 - Onfield Sport Physiotherapy to Homeless World Cup
The homeless world cup is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and organised by Hong Kong Street Soccer which has included the involvements from many countries. We are honored to be invited by the organizer to provide on-field physiotherapy services to the players in MacPherson Playground of Mong Kok.

2016 Nov 18 to 20 - Oxfam Trailwalkers 2016
Every year, we have provided more than 20 registered physiotherapists and also 30 students to support in this massive and famous event. Our physiotherapists did not only provide treatments to trailwalkers but also provide clinical sharing to physiotherapy students and junior staff.

2016 Oct 8 - Onfield Sport Physiotherapy to Convoy Totem Run 2016
Our Vice Chairman of HKPA-SSG, Mr Willis Chan took the lead with several registered physiotherapist to provide the on-field sport physiotherapy services to Totem Runners including the assessment, soft tissue therapy, players' education etc.

Seminar of "Shock to Traditional Physiotherapy Believe - No ice please?! " cum Biennial General Meeting
We are glad to have a very senior physiotherapist, whom people call him The Needleman, Mr Alain Chu to present the topic whether should we use ice or what implications do we have if applying ice as the treatment modality. With his interactive presentation, great sense of humor and large amount of evidence supports, Alain has shared total 139 slides of contents including a list of clinical studies, animal studies, training related studies as well as studies in molecular level to critically analyse the pros and cons of applying ice. He also provided philosophical and critical thinking mindset to our participants to make sure they learn more than something simply technical related. He also brought his client (also a very long term collaboration in providing training and treatment advice) Ms Chow Pui Yan, Wyan who is a local famous ultra-running and ultra-trail athletes to share the issues in preparing such ultra-distance events.
2016 July 24 to 2 Aug - Team Physiotherapy Supports to Hong Kong Orienteering Association (OAHK) for Asian Orienteering Championship in Taiwan
With our close collaboration to OAHK, HKPA-SSG was invited to send experienced physiotherapists to support the Hong Kong team in the participation of Asian Orienteering Championship. This time we had Indy Ho and Michelle Wong to provide on-field services including pre-game/training strapping, warm up, post-game recovery, first-aid or medical supports as well as the night clinics to athletes when were back to the hotel.
2016 July 5 - Injury Prevention Workshop to Basketball Team for Aberdeen Baptist Lui Ming Choi College
This is the 2nd year our Education Officer Indy Ho to be invited to present the injury prevention assessment, training and taping to the young basketball players from Aberdeen Baptist Lui Ming Choi College. In this 2 hours workshop during their basketball training camp, we provided them fundamental ideas about common jumping and landing errors relating to knee injuries, dynamic warm up, proprioceptive training and ankle taping.
2016 June 25 & 26 - Level 1 Sport Physiotherapy Course by Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA)
It is our pleasure to collaborate with Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) to organise the Level 1 Sports Physiotherapy course in the nursing hostel block of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). This time we had Mr. Mark Brown and his wife Dr. Maria Constantinou to deliver the course with the aid and coordination of their ambassador Mr. Alex Chan. We special thank to QEH physiotherapist Isa Lam in liaising for venue and meal arrangement.

We are glad to be invited by 廣州中醫藥大學針灸康復學院 to share our rehabilitation considerations, protocols and common controversial issues in conducting post-op rehabilitation for ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair. Most participants are experienced orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation specialists or physiotherapists in the mainland China. It is also our great pleasure to learn the current rehabilitation approach and concepts from the experts in China. We are looking forward to having our sharing, exchange and presentation in the very soon future again~!
2016 May 28-29 - On-field Physio Support to Homeless World Cup
HKPA-SSG was recently invited to provide on-field physiotherapy support to homeless soccer players from different countries for Jockey Club Homeless World Cup (HK) Fund-raising Tournament cum 2016 Hong Kong International Street Soccer Invitation. We look for more physiotherapists who are passionate in sport to support out massive events in the coming future. We are waiting for you~!
2016 May 7 - Sport Taping Workshop to PolyU Physiotherapy Students (23rd Physiotherapy Students' Society"
The Chairman of HKPA-SSG Alex Ho, and the Education Officer Indy Ho were invited to conduct the sport taping workshop to 40+ year 1 to year 3 physiotherapy students in Hong Kong PolyU. We are glad that all these potential and future professionals are very passionate in the learning of sports related physiotherapy skills. It is also our pleasure for HKPA-SSG to provide maximum support to nurture the next generation!
2016 Apr 16 - Sharing of Assessment and Cases Management in Athletes with Knee Pain and Ankle Pain with Diagnostic Thinking and Biomechanical Concerns
HKPA-SSG is so glad to have two very senior registered and renowned physiotherapists, Ms Debbie LOOK and Phoebe CHEUK, who have worked in sports sector for years to conduct a workshop in case sharing and problem base. The workshop combined both analyses on subjective and objective finding as well as the demonstration on corrective and rehabilitation plan for athletes.

Registered physiotherapists, who are passionate in working for on-field support in sport events, participated in the volunteer works in check point 4 & 8 of the Oxfam Trail Walker (OTW) 2015. They provided professional assessments to players for identifying the source of pain, tightness or chronic issues due to the prolonged walking and stairing activities, biomechanical problems such as malalignment of lower limbs, potential medical issues such as hypoglycemia or hypothermia for referral as well as injuries management including the application of cryotherapy, soft tissue mobilisation, taping, stretching and education on exercise. Student physiotherapists were also recruited to attach with their senior mentors to learn, observe and provide necessary supports to our players. |
2015 Nov 6 - Briefing and Training for Volunteer in supporting Oxfam Trailwalker 2015 The HKPA-SSG Chairman, Mr. Alex Ho, Vice Chairman, Mr Willis Chan, Executive Committees Ms Monika Lau and Mr Indy Ho provided the briefing to physiotherapists and physio students who enrolled in being the helpers to support the trailwalk event. The briefing is to provide background knowledge about the physiological and biomechanics demands, natures and considerations in such ultra-endurance sport. Training stations with demonstrations and practices including taping techniques and soft tissue therapy skills are provided so as to equip the necessary knowledge and skills before the event.
